Domino World

For the first half of my summer engineering internship at Schell Games, I served as a gameplay programmer on Domino World. This game is the result of Schell Games partnering with Google to create an augmented reality (AR) domino game showcasing the Google Tango platform. Players build and play back elaborate virtual domino rallies on real-life surfaces. A variety of toys and gadgets can be placed within the rallies to interact with the dominoes. And at any moment, players can record their own gameplay videos to share with others. Domino World was released in October 2016 to coincide with the launch of the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro—the first consumer Tango device.

Some tasks to which I contributed include:

  • Improving automatic snapping of dominos to ghost markers at endpoints
  • Improving auto-placement of dominos around corners
  • Saving and loading of domino setups
  • Profiling and optimization of physics
  • Priority-based help messages
